About

History

John Muir Academy, a 2006 California Distinguished School recipient, has a long and rich history. Originally established in 1924 on 15th Street and Pacific Avenue, its future and location changed following the Long Beach Earthquake of 1933. Relocated and rebuilt within the city’s western boundaries, it reopened its doors in 1944. For the past 65 years, John Muir has provided a “Good Place to Grow,” as seen in the school logo. Our vision is for students, parents, staff and the community to work together to create an environment of academic excellence, responsible citizenship, character building, open communication between home and school and high expectations for all.
